June 2019 Update: Pictures Below! Renovations continue in earnest on our South Campus, including:
The St. John Fisher Chapel, which will be used for weekday Mass and other small, liturgical services. A new ramp will be built, and a new chapel entrance created. The new entrance will resemble the entrance to the original St. Thomas More Church on Gimghoul Road.
The Bishop F. Joseph Gossman Center, which will include a social hall, a conference room and an informal meeting space. Chapel Hill Carrboro Meals on Wheels will operate there on weekday mornings.
The St. Thomas More Catholic Preschool. We will move our preschool operation to the South Campus where there will be educational programs for 3 and 4-year-old students. It was our hope that the preschool would be ready to open in August. However, a key part of the construction process is building an emergency exit ramp from the second floor of the building. We recently learned that it will not be possible for construction of the ramp to be completed by August. It will most likely be done sometime in September. Our school administration and preschool faculty have already begun plans to open the school year utilizing two classrooms in the lower school for the 4-year-old program and the nursery in the Parish Center for the 3-year-old program. We have previously operated the 3-year-old program out of the nursery, so much of what is needed is already in place. We will transition the students to the new preschool building as soon as possible after it is finished.
